6 – 9pm
38 weeks over 1 year - no classes during school holidays
The Fashion Loop Studio, Bedford.
This course is a combination of pattern cutting & garment sewing production - ideal for students with basic to intermediate level experience.
The objective of this course is to create garments starting from scratch and create garments that are tailored to your body measurements.
You will be embracing the whole process of crafting a garment to a ‘high end/boutique’ standard.
The process will start with a small aspect of designing – you can design your garment around the brief, using your choice of fabric, and to suit your skill level.
The design will be interpreted into a pattern draft which will utilise your pattern cutting skills, especially dart manipulation. This will lead to creating the garment in calico (toile), which will be used to refine the design and fitting of the garment. Finally, the garment will be created in your choice of fabric. Along the way, you can expect to pick up a wealth of technical skills that can only be gained through the experience of crafting.
Block making will also be covered in this course and you can expect to learn how to create a custom fit basic blocks using moulage method & flat pattern drafting.
The first project will begin with a Fit & Flare Dress – students can choose whether they wish to make this a day/evening, casual/smart garment.
As the project progresses, students will be making more choices about the garment - this will enable independence, confidence, and development of personal style.
Some steps involved in the process of making a garment on this course:
- Creating a pattern draft of the garments using blocks as a basis
- Extracting pattern pieces from the draft
- Creating an assembly order for the garment manufacture
