This course consolidates all the technical knowledge gained from the various Fashion Loop beginner and intermediate courses, allowing students to apply their acquired skills effectively.

Course Framework:

  • Begin with a design sketch or select a slightly more advanced garment design.
  • Develop a bespoke pattern draft, tailored to your body measurements using pattern blocks as a foundation.
  • Extract pattern pieces from the draft.
  • Craft calico toiles to refine the garment's fit and appearance.
  • Create an assembly order for the garment manufacturing process.
  • Utilise the finalised pattern pieces to cut fabrics, linings, interlinings, and more.
  • Manufacture the garment to a professional standard.

The course starts with a design element, where you can create a garment around a given brief, choosing fabrics that match your skill level. The initial project centres around a Fit & Flare Dress, giving you the option to make it day/evening, casual/smart wear.

Your design will be transformed into a pattern draft, employing your pattern cutting skills, particularly dart manipulation. This leads to crafting the garment in calico (toile), refining its design and fit. Ultimately, the garment will come to life using your chosen fabric. Throughout, you'll acquire a treasure trove of technical skills only gained through hands-on crafting experience.

As the project evolves, you'll make more decisions about the garment, fostering independence, confidence, and the development of your personal style. The course advances to more complex yet captivating projects, and in the past, we've even included corset-making as part of this course.
