Course Framework:

a) Master the skill of adapting and deconstructing commercial patterns to achieve a beautifully tailored bespoke fit.

b) Attain the expertise to manufacture garments to the highest professional standards.

This course suits students who:

  • Prefer using commercial patterns for garment making
  • Have intermediate-level sewing skills
  • Understand garment fitting and how darts contribute
  • Have experience sewing clothes
  • Are familiar with commercial patterns

You'll learn to modify commercial patterns to fit your body and create well-fitting garments. The Fashion Loop offers a unique method that empowers you to adapt patterns independently once you've grasped it.

Start with simple garments for adapting, cutting, and sewing. As your skills grow, progress to more advanced designs, each featuring techniques applicable to various garment types.

If you're new to sewing, consider joining our Beginners Sewing Foundation Course to learn the basics.

Throughout the course, students will:

• Acquire skills in reading and using commercial patterns

• Learn to adjust commercial patterns to suit their body shape

• Explore numerous garment-making techniques

• Construct toiles and craft garments using their chosen fabrics

• Build confidence and independence for personal projects

• Fashion well-fitting, flattering garments

Mastering the art of sewing and crafting garments to a professional standard requires both time and consistent practice. To maximise your learning experience in this course, we recommend dedicating time between sessions for practice.

Students are required to bring:

- Notebook/sketchbook to take detailed notes

- Fabric scissors – (don’t worry if you don’t know which one to choose, we can help you)

- Other course materials will be discussed throughout the course.

The group size is restricted to 4 students to allow for each student to receive individual support.

We encourage you to bring your own fully serviced sewing machine. If you do not have a sewing machine, we can provide it.
