A 2-day fashion workshop for children aged 9-14 years, taking place during School Holidays year round. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for youngsters to learn fashion garment making skills, taught by an experienced fashion designer. During the workshop, students will make a simple garment they can wear.
As schools are cutting funding/resources in arts education, sewing skills are becoming a thing of the past. During this workshop, students will be given guidance on using a sewing machine and an overlocker, and learn techniques such as basic seams, top stitching and french seams. Priority will be given to teaching students techniques that are vital in the fashion & textiles industries.
Our fashion courses are designed so children can become confident and independent at using the sewing machine and gain an in-depth technical understanding of how it works, especially when trouble shooting. Once this foundation is in place, they can easily progress towards exploring their own creative projects at home. Children who attend these workshops regularly will be progressed onto a more advanced level techniques and make garments that increase in complexity.
- Each child will have their own work station with a Janome Sewing Machine
- Each child will receive a personalised Fashion Loop work folder
- All fabric, haberdashery items and equipment will be supplied
- Refreshments will be provided but students should bring a packed lunch.
